WHAT’S ON: Balcony Bar’s Oyster Festival

FRESHLY SHUCKED AND STILL IN THEIR GRIZZLY SHELLS, DRESSED WITH GRUYERE SAUCE, GREENS AND CHORIZO OR PERHAPS SOUTHERN FRIED AND SANDWICHED IN A TACO WITH SLAW AND CHIPOTLE MAYO. HOWEVER YOU LIKE YOUR OYSTERS YOU'LL FIND THEM ON THE MENU AT THE BALCONY BAR IN BYRON AS THEY PAY HOMAGE TO THIS EXQUISITELY, DELICIOUS LITTLE MOUTHFUL IN THEIR ANNUAL OYSTER FESTIVAL.

It’s mollusk madness from August 1 to 31 as Executive Chef Sean Connolly shucks up a storm with a unique menu that showcases, just how creative you can get with the humble oyster.

Here are some of his faves and if you email the Balcony Bar, they’ll give you the full recipes.  Yum!  We love that kind of generosity and we love too that Sean’s menus are inspired by an ocean-to-plate and local wherever possible kind of ethos, just like so many of the growing list of fabulous foodies in the Byron region.

With Autumn sunshine abundant and Oyster Happy Hour running from 5-6pm every night at just $1 an oyster, it's time to take up a seat on the balcony of this heritage-listed restaurant and bar, positioned slap bang in the middle of bustling Jonson street and within earshot of the waves crashing onto Main Beach.  The Balcony is also the most perfect spot - next to a blanket on the beach at Clarkes or Wategos - to watch the sun setting on another perfect day in Byron.  And of course The Bower is in easy walking distance from the Balcony, or if wheel-power's more your thing, a leisurely cycle ride on your beautiful retro-design Lekker bicycle.

Combine that with oysters every which way from Sean's superbly crafted menu and a saunter home to drop onto one of our 5 Star beds to recover, and you've pretty much got an unforgettable beach holiday sorted.  Come join us eh?  We'd make you very welcome.
