Hakea is a female founded, Australian label crafting sustainably made sun, surf and swimwear by women, for women. And it shows! The thoughtful shapes and styles celebrate the diversity of the female form without compromising on comfort and function out in the surf.
Diverging from the typical four collections per year fashion model, they release limited capsules that evolve or expand on the core range according to their customer needs.
Hakea work with high quality Italian recycled nylon, made from regenerated ghost fishing nets, discarded ocean plastics and fabric mill scraps to create a sustainable performance fabric that is UPF 50+ and resistant against chlorine and breakage. The fabric is also 100% free from harmful chemicals and kind on your skin, so to say we’re impressed is an understatement.
The colour palettes are exquisitely earthen, reminiscent of coastlines and desert landscape, and the large variety of styles have us coming back time and time again.
Surf and swimwear brand Abysse was founded by mother and daughter duo Hanalei and Raphaele. The brand’s motto is “produce less, produce well.” Each and every covetable piece is made locally, using recycled materials and conscious practices as they push sustainability as a brand requirement, not a marketing tool.
Abysse has an extensive collection of neoprene wetsuits that are oh so fashionable and available in every shape and style imaginable.
Abysse also boast an everlasting range of classic one piece and bikinis, many of which include shelf-bras for comfort and support to enhance performance and stability while you swim.
Although many of their designs are created with active women in mind, they haven’t overlooked those who would rather work on their tan with a gorgeous collection of tiny-weeny bikinis.
Indigenous swimwear brand Liandra Swim fuses tradition and sustainability to create a contemporary swimwear brand with distinct dotted prints. This twist on dot art opens up the dialogue ensuring that the collection is more than just a pretty swimsuit. Rather it shifts the focus on Liandra Gaykamangu’s background and heritage to ignite positive narratives around indigenous Australian women.
Liandra Swim is an eco-conscious brand with fabrics made from regenerated plastics and recycled elastane. The mailer bags are home-decomposable and the plant-based packaging is made from cassava which is non-toxic and biodegradable within months (3-6 months dependent on the environment).
Each bathing suit style is named after an indigenous woman Gaykamangu finds particularly inspiring, including doctors, painters, and actors.
