Contemporary fashion and lifestyle brand Nagnata have opened their first Australian flagship store in Byron Bay’s Jonson Lane precinct, which is only a hop, skip and jump away from The Bower.
Nagnata’s Creative Director Laura-May Gibbs has worked closely with interior designers Pattern Studio to bring the brand’s vision to life; hand-drawn sketches created from Gibbs’ couch at home were the basis upon which an instinctive design process unfolded, creating a gallery-like space where the clothes and colour speak as art.
The store’s design is informed by and works with naturally sourced materials to create a harmonious sense of balance and serenity. Paying homage to the brand’s eco-conscious sensibilities, everything is uniquely crafted and customised; a hand-carved timber pillar by Byron-based artist Lex Williams sits with an Italian marble desk hand-crafted in Sydney in contrasting planes of stone creating an abstract interpretation of the Yin-Yang philosophy of balance, polarity and harmony.
Offsetting the raw elements, the store features cutting-edge LED linear lighting that can instantly bathe the entire space in a wash of coloured light, transforming this serene sanctuary into an electrifying, energetic environment AKA rave cave – it’s a chameleon of a fit-out! The front window display offers an artistic view into the brand’s world with hand-plastered abstract body forms adorned with Nagnata knits.
On our list? Anything from the seamless collection, it feels like a second skin and there’s a growing range of colours to mix and match. While it’s not the season for jumpers we can’t go past the Sonny Sweaters and the new range of alpaca knits – we wear ours oversized tucked into a mini!
The genderless trackies are a must for anyone planning a trip in the near future, pair these with the matching bomber for the ultimate travel outfit. Finally, the Amber Vela candles (created in a collaboration with AYU) also make wonderful stocking fillers!
Nagnata’s flagship store is located at 139 Jonson Street, in the new Jonson Lane precinct. Open 7 days, from 9am – 6pm.
